Well, which of these would you get? I need to a machine to browse, rip DVD's, and play games. I'd say I'm a mid-level gamer and I have a good AGP video card. (I don't mind the expense of upgrading to the PCI-E for the first combo.)

The Intel Pentium-D 805 Processor (2.66GHz Dual Core) with ECS RC410L/800-M Motherboard together for $150 + shipping. Shipping starts at $7. Integrated 6 Channel Audio, Integrated Radeon Xpress200 Video, PCI-E Video and SATA/RAID support

-OR-

AMD Sempron Processor 3100+ & ECS NFORCE3-A Motherboard for $80 + shipping

Which of these would you get and why?

You won't be able to game at all well on that 805 system, you need a graphics card for it (integrated might load the game but that's as much as you can say for it). The Semperon chip will be comparable in speed in games, but upgrading is not a possiblity, one more thing, you've ignored the cost of RAM, is that not being carried over?

The pentium system will be faster for DVD decoding etc. and give you more possiblity for future upgrades.

Short version? Pass.

So you would pass on both of these? I posted above that I didn't mind the expense of buying a good PCI-E card. I didn't add in the cost of RAM because I'll be buying it no matter which board I get so it's pretty much a wash...
