Hi all!
Please help a n00b choose an LCD monitor!
All of sudden my father said he's gonna buy me an LCD.

Budget - he said $300sh, I can add another $100, that would bring us to $400
(I live in Texas).

Hardware: I have nVidia 6800GT, 256bit, in AGP8x - it has DVI output. CPU is (32 bit/Socket A) AMD 3200+ and a gig of Corsair Value DDR400 RAM.

Requirements:
1. He said he wants the colors to be as natural as possible.
2. He is VERY inclined towards ViewSonic, because we have 2 ViewSonic screens (CRT) and they are excellent. Also he had good experiences with ViewSonic at work.
3. I want viewing angle to be fairly wide, so that image doesn't disappear when I move my head 1 inch.
4. Little or no "ghosting" - I play CS:S.
5. Big: my current screen is 19" ViewSonic CRT (A90f+). Currently looking at 22" Widescreen.
6. It is cool to be able to go to local computer store (Houston has many) and check the screens out in person, then buy 'em on NewEgg!
7. My concern is - how will partially shielded speakers (huge!) affect image? They alter image slightly on CRT... They stand next to monitor, see pic.

Thanks! :)

EDIT: Forgot to say: currently the only choice I see is this 22" ViewSonic.

Yeah, I just picked up that 22" from Costco, last month for $299.99. ($50 instore discount)
Best deal for any 22" out there. Though I wanted a 2407, I just couldn't turn it down after I saw the display. Costco has some left for $349.99.

Do you play games? How is it?

By the way, maybe I should consider 21.X inch monitors? There seems more of them than 22"s.

22" westinghouse @ bb for 199 on black friday.

Unless you're in the carmel, IN area, in which case don't go for it so I can get it (they only have like 10 per store). ;)

if you want wide viewing angles your probably going to want a S-IPS panel.

the new "fad" i've been seeing is instead of getting 20'' widescreen monitors get 22'' for the same price the problem with this is the 22'' panels are usually lower quality than the 20'' making the 20'' superior. I highly suggest you research LCD panels as people tend to think lower response times in ms means it's faster and better. This is an untrue statement

I highly recommend people reading this guide:

Sorry, no gaming.
Excellent for my video editing though.
