Alright guys...I posted a few days ago about getting a Picturebook...but I find that there are some better option available. One is the Sharp PC-AX40 and the other is the Sony SR17.

However, there are probably notebooks out there that I haven't heard of so...please...help me out. Here's EXACTLY what I need.

The focus is PORTABLITY

MUST HAVE

1. 500+ MHz
2. 10.4 or 12.1 screen. No 14.1 or 15 inchers. Too big.
3. At least 64 megs of RAM and must be expandable to at least 192.
4. 6 gig or higher HD.
5. Weigh no more than 3.5 pounds.
6. No more than an inch thick.
7. Price tag of around $2000CDN or $1250 US...give or take a couple hundred ballpark.

PREFERED

1. Built in 10/100. Modem not necessary.
2. Bluetooth or 802.11 would be cool...but also not necessary. 10/100 built in is very much so prefered...
3. CD-ROM. Internal or external. This doesn't matter that much though. DVD is obviously cooler.
4. USB and Firewire ports.
5. Mobile Radeon. Also not too huge of a factor. It's not like I'm gonna play games on this thing.

What it's going to be used for.

1. Typing notes in class.
2. Browsing the net.
3. ICQ and e-mail.
4. Watching videos (some of my lectures have actual videos available on the net on demonstrations.)

Remember...I have to carry this thing around campus along with all my other stuff...so no bricks. 1 inch...give or take 0.1...and no more than 3.5 pounds (without CD-ROM in is okay. SR17 has external CD-ROM and weighs 2.98 without it.)

Thanks guys. Any suggestion is appreciated.

VAIO R505TL. The Keyboard is excellent for a small laptop, which is important for taking notes.

i may be wrong but it seems to me that you could get alot more laptop than you're describing for what you are willing to pay. A friend of mine got a thinkpad with similar specs for ~800. Sorry i can't be of more help.
