I jumped on the SERO sprint plan when I found it in the hot deals.

I switched from Verizon (no complaints) to Sprint, because my phone was crapping out. I even paid the ETF because it was half of the cost I would have paid for service waiting for my contract to expire.

I got the black Katana and it has been great. It feels really solid. I chose it because of the feedback it got on phonescoop, how great reception it gets and it really does. Calls are clear.

It gets good signal, on par Verizon in my area so far, and I'm in Houston.

I still need to put the katana under some stress tests though. When I had Verizon, I would be the only one among my friends with signal in our campus's library. They had tmobile and cingular.

I recently did some research and also talked to a Sprint rep while I was at the Mall a few weeks ago to verify what I had learned.

Basically if you want the best reception stick with Sanyo. The Katana is a solid no frills phone but is fairly big. The newer model Sanyo 8400 has more bells and whistles and gets pretty solid reviews.

The Sprint rep liked the LG Fusic, claims it get just as good reception as the Sanyos, so that may be worth a look also.

While researching I found several people that did not like the reception quality on the RAZR's. The A900 is all right, but I guess the battery life is pretty dismal. My brother has one and likes it, but agrees with me on the battery thing.

I would personally go with the Sanyo 8400, I like the fact you can take pictures on it and have them stored on a micro SD card. I have a Sanyo 5300 I need to upgrade soon...

See here - Doesn't seem to be too much. the M still lacks a *sd card slot and has atrocious battery life. Other then those two shortcomings, I really liked my A900. Too bad for it that Sprint's service sucks.

Edit: And here

You say Sprint's service sucks... I don't know, I've heard good things about it, at least here locally. One thing I know is that it's better than Nextel's. I cannot get through a conversation with my Nextel.

The problem's you're having with Nextel is the same problems I was having with Sprint. It was great service when I was in WV (except when driving in the valleys) but almost as soon as I got back here, my reception and call quality went to pot in the places I am most. I had to step completely outside the house and go into the middle of the yard to even get a single bar.

VZW, otoh, gives me great signal strength even inside the house, and more consistent call quality.

the battery life on my A900 is about 2-3 days now. it used to only be one day, but that was when my office was deeper in the building. now that i've got a window the batter life has shot up.

my main complaints are that T9 on the A900 doesn't seem to have as big a word bank as the T9 on my old sanyo, the interface is slower than the sanyo, and it doesn't immediately jump to a name when you start typing in the phone book. and the power connector is in the most retarded place possible, the side of the phone. also, no SD slot (which isn't quite as bad as on my old phone because this one seems to be able to upload pictures fine, the old one would time out too much)

Phone works great, has EVDO if you plan on using vision that's nice. Only complaint is battery life isn't too good. It seems to get better reception than other sprint phones as well..

Does Sprint or any carrier have a slick thin phone that does not have an mp3 player or camera and all the crap?

i can do that currently with my sanyo vm4500(??) or 5500(??) can't remember but I couldn't live without it as its my main internet connection.

since Sprint and Nextel are the same company, does that mean I can get the "walkie talkie" feature with Sprint and use it with Nextel users ?

Another vote for the A900 over the Katana and RAZR. It's a solid phone and the interface is much better than the Katana (I have used both extensively). I can't really comment on the RAZR except I know people who claim they are fragile. I have dropped my A900 several times and it still works great. The A900 also will work as a modem for the PC, has faster data transfer compared to the other two, and has bluetooth.

Stay away from the RAZR. I'd go with the Katana.

i went from a razr on cingular to a blackberry 7130e on verizon
work is paying for the blackberry whoot!

i'm never looking back hehe
I'm actually going from the Blackberry 7100i to the A900 (probably). :p

i have the a900 and it was cool when it came out but the new M610 looks so much nicer, try them out in the store and see, also ask the people there about the battery life comparisions
