i could not be more pleased with the Xigmatek hdt-s1283. I have asus pc probe on and am looking at the numbers in absolute awe. my cpu is sitting at 36c my mb is 38c (reconfirmed readings with speedfan). the cpu fan is not noticable at all, unlike the zalman 9700 which sounded like a blowdryer. i used ac5 and the thinnest layer i could manage to cover the cpu, installation was easy, the hs/fan is very lightweight and i have cool and quiet off being that even at top speed (1388rpm) the fan is not even noticeable over the other relatively quit case and gpu fans. i just cant belive something so small, lightweight, and quiet can cool so well.

ambiant 24c

idle
cpu 36c mb 38c

full load 30minutes

cpu 52c mb 45c

i love those nubers but am only slightly concerned about the 16c margin of heat from idle to full load. i mean, with thermal expansion and contraction will such variance cause damage to my cpu over time? when i have c&c on the cpu idles at about 39c-40c but still tops out at 52c'ish, should i leave c&c on to minimize the differerance? or am i better off with it off?

6 week update.

all the nubers are the same as above. i am truly impressed. sub 40c at idle and low 50s at full load over 30 minutes done with only the faintest, barely noticeable hum.

Check this link out i have used the Zalman 9500 or the 9700 on four systems ands they have did a good job for me over the years but this new direct contact cooler is worth looking at if I were to built a new system tomorrow i think I would use this one the Red scorpion. My Zalmans in the P-180 and P-182 case run about 10c over ambiant at idle or a little more 29-32c idle up to 42c to 45c burn in load.

No im allowed to lock threads which is completely off or completely wrong, so you can be sure that you wont get gross misinformation in this section.

Also i am somewhat of a cooling experts (more geared to h2o tho), although mods dont need to be experts, but it helps moderating a section.

And tell me if you get flamed. I dont take lightly to people flaming newbies for making newbie mistakes. However i will give you a stern look and a direction twords google if you ask the simplist of questions, but no flaming is involved. 😀

And yes butcher is a great guy.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...223&Tpk=ZALMAN%2b9500A

it was $55 after shipping and tax for me. 81% of 1408 people on newegg gave it a 5/5. My pc keeps on overheating and crashing. hope this will help

=)

thats not the best sink in the world.

And you should of listed your problem first. It maybe a internal airflow problem more then a sink problem. :\

guys, lemme say this one more time. Zalman was great 2 yrs ago. Now its NOT. There terribly out date and rediculously overpriced. Unless you can get one sale, there are much better solutions.

Xigmatec is very hard to beat right now on price/performance ratio.
Ultima90 will give the zalman sink a good run for its money.
Tuniq Tower will stomp it
TRUE will rape it.

If possible refuse package from newegg and then request a refund. :\

I dont recomend the zalman heat sink anymore unless you already own it or you can get it for a steal.

yea, I'm quite sure it's the heatsink... it's still the retail heatsink for the opteron. I even got a new case (antec something with 3 giant fans). I don't think I do anything cpu intensive either, watching some movies will tick it off.

man, I was in a rush to buy a heatsink, didn't do much research. So I went with the reviews. If 1000+ say it's a good heatsink, I thought, then it must be.

oh well, it'll be here in 3 days, if it does the trick... I guess I'll just eat the 2 gallons of gas I could've saved.
