recently my burner just broke (it's kinda weird how it still writes, but doesn't have any valid data on the disc).

Anyway, I was thinking of buying a mad dog dvd burner because if the price, but i was thinking it would probably be better to invest a little more money for a better burner. Among the name brands taht i am looking at are...NEC, Plextor, Pioneer, and Sony. Now, i know that Sony and Plextor burners are way higher in price than the NEC, but i keep hearing that it is overpriced. I want something that will last for 4-5 years, what would you all recommend?

(btw, i currently have a optorite d203, it's a good reader now, i've tried everything to fix it, nothing worked).

Yes i have the pioneer 106,107,108,109.

yes is have 2 pc.And if i may pick one out of these the 108 is the best.

Pioneer and NEC uses thesame chipset .So if you use PIONEER 109 ore The newest NEC.If would be thesame.

Hope this would help.

Plextor is the only brand you should consider unless you like buying and replacing your burners regularly.

If you like to copy DVD/CD for backup there is only one brand to consider....Liteon. The New Sonys are rebadged Liteon for more $$$, and LG and Buslink are often rebadged Liteon.

You can get the 1633s which can be flashed to a 1635s for about 55 dollars.

Plextor isn't worth the extra money like it used to be.

NEC 3520 / Pioneer 108 is def. your best choices.

I have used the 16x Lite on as well and had issues with several drives..

Love Lite-ON CD-RW drives though..

There's really nothing to it - the overwhelming consensus is for the NEC 3520A, when it comes to a balance between price & performance.

However, if spending the extra bucks for a Plextor PX 716A doesn't hurt you, then thats your top choice - A Plextor is simply the best buy for performance.

Price/perf the Nec or Benq and their variants are the best.
If cost isn't an issue I would choose between the Pioneer 109 or the Plext 716. I have had both brands earlier models and no probs with either.
I chose the Plex 716A because it had a $30.00 rebate at the time.
No problems with any burns since I've had it, using TY +/- blanks.
