Help me choose a gaming monitor

So for our 10 year anniversary yah! My wife said I can can upgrade my computer if I want or get a laptop, don't really want a laptop and my system runs great at this time so I though I would get a new monitor, something with better colors and such. I use my computer just for gaming. Not interested in 3d gaming so I don't need a 3d monitor.

I was thinking of something like this

http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-XL2420TE-...dp_ob_title_ce

http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-Performan...7182478&sr=1-2

or this

http://www.amazon.com/MX279H-27-Inch...7181530&sr=1-5

or this

http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VG278H-27...182138&sr=1-11

Congrat's on your Anniversary! How about a Korean 1440p display? I've been very happy w/ my Shimian (IPS) screen.

ebay search for QNIX or X-STAR

27" 1440p IPS that OC's to 110Hz fairly easily

around 320 bucks

Or pay more for a locally 'sourced' version:

its not like ASUS honors its warranty very well anyways

and IPS owns TN in color reproduction

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=121117252582

$289

or

$275

Thanks for the advice. To those that have IPS panel monitors, how big a difference is there in regards to color compared to a TN panel? I've never seen a IPS in person.

IPS is incredible for color (blacks are ok but nothing like plasma). I adore my Overlord Tempest but would go LightBoost if my only consideration were pure fluidity of motion (and all else, including color reproduction, be damned).

Something to think about, thanks.

You may also find 3D Vision 2 to be a nice perk of the VG278H. Some may not like it, but I find it hard to not game in 3D after using it (and properly configuring it. Default setup has almost no effect).

I was thinking about that also. Lots of choices hard to decide 😕

For overclockables, you get the color and extra pixels. Can be better for programming and apps.
For LightBoost, you get CRT-quality motion quality. Better for gaming with lots of panning/turning/strafing/fast motion.

For LightBoost with less compromises in color, get one of the 27" LightBoost models. The VG278H has better LightBoost color than VG248QE.

I've checked Amazon .. the known brands are 500+ when it comes to 2560x1440 .. If you can upgrade your budget, then this is the way to go considering that monitor is not something you change often ..

Otherwise, if you stick to 1080p .. I personally prefer size .. From your recommendations the ASUS MX279H sounds most reasonable .. 3D won't give you much in games so this is great choice without 3D .. Also it has very thin bazel, this is a good thing if you decide to go 3 monitors one day 🙂

Is there a consensus between the VG278H and the XL2720T for Lightboost? I think I'd be "stuck" with the BenQ just because I want Displayport and the ASUS doesn't appear to have it (in the photos/specs I've seen).

I noted that Vega went BenQ for his setup and he tends to be hard to please...

Mark seems to be saying that the VG278H is the best LB monitor overall right now if you can afford it.

Vega is known for running multi-monitor setups so he may well have gone for the BenQ due to the DP output

I have the asus VG278H and I love that damn thing. It was the first lightboost monitor out and still the best it seems. I wouldn't trade it unless ips tech get a lot faster.

I'm kind of leaning towards the VG278H right now, got till the end of the weekend to decide.

Any reason why you're leaning on the VG278H over the VS247H-P?
Here's a review on the Asus VS247H-P

I say it's one of the best all around monitors for anything, plus it's considerably cheap at $179 or whatever it is

There is a rather large difference between them. Several reasons, actually.

1) 120hz
2) Lightboost for near 0 motion blur
3) 3D Vision 2
