I?m 44 years old and in about 7 years I can retire. I know I?m not just going to sit around the house. I?m either going to continue with my present job, a die repairman at a forge, or get into a computer related career. Just last week I finished my last class for a bachelors degree for Industrial Management, but I was only doing that to make myself more employable in case the economy goes in the tank or my employer closes the doors. So, going back to school won?t be a shock.

I?d love to have a job that I could set my own hours or work out the home, but that?s not a necessity.

Most of you people that have had a chance to view the computer industry from the inside have at some time said to yourself, ?I wish I had gotten into that field?. Well, what was that field? Any suggestions?

You obviously haven't seen my body. Can't figure out if they would pay me more to keep my clothes on or stop singing.

OK, I'll take your vote as one vote for Web Master of a porno site. I think we can do better than that.

I am a programmer/developer for a large telecom company. I am able to work at home 5 days a week if I like. With my broadband connection, there really isn't anything I can't do at home that I can do at work. To the most part, I have an extremely flexible schedule. Some days, I work 5 hours and some days I work 12 hours depending on what I am working on. I produce good quality code, usually before deadlines. Everyone is happy. BTW, I do take advantage of working at home 4 days a week, every week. I would suggest looking into the development/programming side of the computer industry. Atleast for me, it offers a great deal of flexibility. Good luck.

I would suggest as gittyup suggested, however, you may be prone to like something in the cad, design spectrum of computing. Using the computer to enginer parts manufacturing or building the next sky scraper or dam could be a lucrative venture.

If you are looking to get into network administration, I would say the market is saturated. There will always be someone just like yourself asking this question about computing, so if you can learn enough fast enough to be a MCT or such, you will not have any trouble finding employment. Tech schools are a dime a dozen, and trainers are highly paid.

There is something to be said about "those that can, do, and those that can't, teach" ;)

Tripleshot and gittyup this is just the kind of info I need. Fiddled a little with Fortran ahh............25 years ago. Yeah, I could get into computer aided tooling and design. We do a ton of that at work.
