I am looking for something sleek and small that would fit in my pocket with the best picture quality. I don't know a whole lot about it and I am looking for a few cameras to look at to start off. Thanks in advance.

that is kind of pricey, but it shouldn't be much of a problem. I didn't want to go above $500 for one, but i want a really good one that is sleek and such.

office depot has $50 off cameras $199 or more this week. i'd suggest you look there for a $200ish camera, it'll be hard to beat that price online

edit: seems like newegg has a lot of recertified olympus ultra compacts

Looks like a lot of people here are recommending the cameras from the elph series of canon.

I used to have one of the older elph series and it does what you need it to for simple point and shoot.

Agreed, I have an SD600. Small, takes great pictures, has A LOT of features for such a small affordable camera.

canon is very good.

get 3 x optical zoom.

digital zoom is almost worthless. you only need 3 mega pixles to pring an 8x 10 shot
5 megapixels allows you to print an 11x14 print or zoom into part of the shot to print that portion 8x10.

go for quality of lens over fancy sounding features on an off brand.

i pretty much have it down to these 3...

Sony N2 (has more than I need for $450)
Canon sd750 (very nice camera with 3" lcd for ~$350)
Canon sd1000 (same as the 750 except 2.5" lcd for ~$300)

what would you guys/gals do?

Also, I just need a nice hand held camera to take really nice point and click shots and to dabble in a little ametuer work as the fiancee likes those things. :)

IMO those three are overkill for just a small point and click camera. Those are over $100 more than my SD600 and have all the same features, except they are 7.1MP instead of 6...big difference
