You do realize that AMD alreay had 64 bit processors, right?
Hence the AMD 64.

For a 5-6 year upgrade cycle, I don't think it really matters.
By that time software will be far ahead of where it is today.

Heads = Intel
Tails = AMD

yeah, just about anything you'll pick today should do...
here's a recomendation:

AMD A64 3200+ socket 939 (or better if you can afford)
Any nForce4 motherboard that your budget fits does NOT have to be SLI
2*512mb pc3200 (DDR400) RAM
120gb Sata hard disk
gf 6600GT pci-e graphics card
a decent PSU
a nice case

a system like this can last you 5-6 years, since you'll have many options to upgrade it cheaply in the future. So as long as you don't require bleeding edge tech. you're set with a system like that.

i have heard from friend that amd crashes too much and is not stable as intel esp in india what do you all think

note😀o any body know how to change password in this form as i cannot rem. default pass. given by this site

AMD is hardly any less stable than Intel, and at this point has far less issues. Prescotts have the tendancy to run very hot, to the point where they throttle themselves, even at default speeds. Athlon 64 is definatly the best bang for the buck right now, but it does still depend on what software you'll be running and such.

well its quiet urgent fo me to buy cpu

is amd planning to reduce cost of fx55 or is it launching new cheap processor?
is fx 55 cheap than intel latest processor?
if am right amds latest processor is fx 55

Last I checked the FX-55 was a bit more than an Intel 3.8, but it's also better. AMD just released the Semperon line, which are castrated Athlon-64s.

Just checked ZZF + Newegg, any 3.2EE+ is more than a FX-55 at this point.

hi everybody one sad news :- yesterday i went to mumbai-india computer market for buying athlon pc .and there are no available athlon though there site displays mumbai address and also all imports will be done after 29 indian budget

can we speed up 3500 upto fx55
well icopoli r u talking of speed or cost

I would go with A64. Taking all other factors out of the picture such as price, performance, etc., socket 939 will have a longer lifespan than socket T on 925XE. A64 doesnt require DDRII either, and socket 939 will support dual-core processors.

After you consider A64 processors are faster for office applications, gaming, etc., run cooler, cost less $$$, have 64-bit capability now, and 6xx Intel isn't here yet....it's a no brainer....

parag002, I think you answer is listed in the very top of this forum.

You should read it first "Hardware Guide for New Users".
