i don't really know anything about cameras. i just need good megapixel, zoom, lcd screen, and some other good stuff that a camera comes with.

i am budgeting to spend at least 200 dollars on any brand. i prefer canon but i'm open to other's.

although my recent canon cameras that i have they've been a bust so yeah gotta watch out for that also. let me know what camera's are good and around my price range and thank you for helping me :D.

Please, pleas, please do NOT buy a camera depending on how it looks!!!! What's inside depends the most and it really shouldn't matter whats on the outside. I continue to recommend the Canon SD 800 IS as the best point and shoot camera. It runs about $250, but it has a really wide angle lens (28mm eq, vs 35mm of most others), 7 megapixels, 3.8x optical zoom, and Canon's DiGiC II image processor. Not to mention its very thin. If you don't mind the bulk, get a Canon A series camera

thanks jawo. of course you can't judge a camera by its cover its what inside that counts. and i didn't say the sd1000 is bad or anything it just looks cheap and doesn't bring the quality of the performance of the Sd series.

What do you mean by shutter speed? How fast the picture is taken, frames per second, or ???

Here's a compairson btw the cameras you are thinking about: DPReview The biggest differences are the price $250 (Canon SD800) vs $380 (Sony T200) and the memory SD/SDHC vs Memory Stick. Furthermore the Sony only has a 35mm equivelant wide angle and the Canon's have a 28mm equivenlant (big difference).

i guess shutter speed. does it factor in how fast the picture is taken.

i'm just looking for a camera that has good quality settings and good zoom and antishake. mom just cares about lcd screen and the zoom while i want to look for quality and stuff in the camera. thanks jawo.

there is shutter speed and then there is shutter lag. shutter speed is how long the camera leaves the shutter open for when taking a picture. for just about any camera the automatic settings can leave the shutter open anywhere from 30 seconds on down to 1/2000 (most compacts), 1/4000 (consumer SLRs), or 1/8000 (better SLRs). but shutter speed is a photographic function and the camera will take care of that. nothing to really worry about.

i think what you want to know about is shutter lag, which is how long until the camera starts taking the picture after the shutter button is fully pressed. if it has a long shutter lag, you're less likely to get the picture you thought you were going to (subject moves).
