Ivy Bridge isn't really much faster than Sandy Bridge on a clock-for-clock basis. The real benefit is in reduced power consumption and overclockibility. Whether or not that's worth waiting for is up to you.

Similarly, PCIe 3.0 is only really useful in triple and quad Crossfire/SLI setups. Single GPUs and normal Crossfire/SLI don't fully utilize PCIe 2.0 yet, so 3.0 is of minimal benefit.

I want to get as big of an OC as possible (on air), so i think its worth it to wait for me. Unless i try to buy a used 2500k, which im guessing would be >50 cheaper than a new ivb.

Having pci 3.0 i guess isnt really a big deal to me. I'm looking around for motherboards now, since im sure the landscape wont change too much from now until ivb is released.

So thats probably the first part i want to start looking at. I'm pretty sure i want Z68. I need a good overclocker, dont care too much about pcie 3.0, usb 3.0 would be nice, but isnt completely necessary.

Any recommendations?

I don't think you can run away from usb3.0 for z68 mbs in your price range (post #1) which is a good thing.

Ivy Bridge will bring with it a whole slew of new chipsets, including potentially lower-cost Z-series ones like the Z75. IMHO, if you're going to wait on the CPU, you might as well wait on the mobo too. You'll have more choices when Ivy Bridge is released and can evaluate the landscape then.

Will they be released the same time as IVB? or after?

And will they actually be cheaper? or will the advantage be that it will lower prices of current motherboards?

IF i wait for new chipsets to be released, that would mean i would have to be one of the firsts to buy a brand new chipset, and would take on some risks by being an early adopter.

The money i set aside for upgrades is burning a hole in my pocket!

Same time.

Likely the latter, but nobody has a crystal ball. A mobo sitting in the box gives you no benefit, so there is no reason to buy early.

Now you're stretching. :awe: The chipset will be largely similar to the current ones except with guaranteed Ivy Bridge validation.
