Hey guys

Im about to relinquish my old XP 1600 system and let my case fall to the darkside...

What combination of Motherboard and CPU should I use?

I've been to a few sites and was considering a ABIT BH7 and a 2.53, is there any better p4 overclocker atm other than 2.53 for not too much more? I'm looking to spend about 300.

Make sure P4 2.53 you getting is SL6S2 spec.

BH7 is a great board. Asus p4pe or P4G8X is awesome as well.

I second that. It seems Outpost is the place to get these, but you got to deal with bent pins... :disgust: The BH7 can be had for ~$95 shipped, so they all should be within your budget. Have fun & let us know.

BH7 is great but there is no RAID onboard - You might want to look at the GA-8PE800 if you want RAID unless you want to go with dual DDR which might blow your budget.

Get a Canterwood 875 DC DDR board if you can. If not, an 845PE board from Asus, Abit, Albaton, EPoX are all good. Need to know what features you need to recommend a specific board.

For CPU, yes, the Outpost.com 2.53 "bent pin" CPUs are getting mad overclocks if that is your thing. It is an OEM CPU, so you will need a HS/F like an Alpa 8942 or Swiftech MCX4000 and add a 80mm fan.

The 875/2.53 will be way over $300. An 845PE/2.53/HS/Fan will also go over, but not by as much. To keep it under $300, go 845PE/2.4 SL6EF retail with HS/Fan included.

where should I go for the CPU? and what is bent pins and how will that affect the install?

there are pins on the back side all CPU's, outpost tends to send out processors that have bent pins which makes for an annoying installation

Where is the best place to go for 2.53?
