How about those reflective things you use on car windows when parking.

May I recommend acient Japanese room dividers to place in front of the window? I have a couple in my dojo and the chicks never complain about it being to hot even with all my guitar amps.

For some reason the idea of a dojo with Japanese room dividers and guitar amps just cracks me up :)

Unfortunately, moving is not an option. I'm locked into a year lease. I was assured that the top-floor apartments kept cool. I didn't get it in writing, so I guess i'm fvcked until I find a fix...

Foil on the outside of the windows. You will have to put white pain on it though to keep the landlord happy.

The windows in my living room face west, therefore, they are blasted with heat all afternoon. My a/c just can't keep up. Are there any good materials out there that effectively reflect the light and hold off some of the heat?

Each window is 49" x 29.5". If something is placed in the window, it has to be white to match the blinds (manager's policy).

Any ideas?

White styrofoam boards or similar can be bought at home depot.

This is what I use. They come in pink but there is also white panel board next to the stack of these foam panels so I glued the two together, works great on two windows I have them on.
