Im building my computer for the first time, i know i installed everything properly, but when i turned my computer on, nothing came up on the screen. It just constantly beeped. I couldnt find the beep chart, but it just did a single beat like every 5 seconds or so. What should i do?!?!?!?!?!?

Look at the motherboard manual. There are beep codes in it. Find out what the beeps mean.

Also, tell us the specs of your pc.

A8V-E deluxe eh? Not sure if this board has POST reporter, plug your speakers into the green jack and it'll tell you what's up. First build eh? It's tough man when things go wrong. Try booting with only 1 stick of ram (in the first slot, closest to the CPU).

Ahah! A memory problem! Sorry bro, your problem is 1 of 2 things:
1) That memory's not compatible
2) That memory is defective.

To rule out a possiblity, do me a favor and take out the stick that's in there, and put in the other one.

Edit: heh. I added the words "A favor" to the sentence "Do me ___ and take out the stick...." Makes a big difference :).

Yea, i tried using individual sticks, and i tried both of them, so i guess its compadibility issue, i paid a lot of money for this memory, i cant return this...

That's fine - with a bios update it should be resolved.

Alright, my proposed solution-
Take another computer, and put THAT memory in your A8V-E, hopefully it will boot up...... if it does, then do a BIOS update. Hopefully the memory will be compatible afterwards.

Last resort solution:
Where did you buy your memory from by the way? If you bought it from a place like NewEgg, they'll let you return it (you gotta pay for shipping though) and buy memory that's supported on ASUS's Qualified Vendor List.

Ill try that, but i did buy it from newegg, but i already returned my memory once, because i didnt like that first memory that i bought, and 2nd, ive had this memory for like a month and a half already...

And has it been working all this time and did it recently 'fail'? Or did you just start building recently?
Out of curiosity why didn't you like the first memory you bought? Faster memory only gives you a 2-3% performance difference (unless you're overclocing, where it'll help quite a bit).

Hey, sorry if I seem annoying by all these questions, just trying to help you with your problem here though.

No the questions are fine, im am thankful that somebody is helping me. My first memory was dual channel 2x512, but then i upgraded to 2x1GB, so that is why i returned it. I just tried using memory from another computer in the house, and it also says that it failed the memory test...and that computer works fine, so it could be the mobo...

Possibly. I heard the A8V-E wasn't a very stable board (a couple review sites said that). Not sure if this will help you in any way, but have you considered the A8N-E? More features, except the Wireless card included in the A8N-E.

1 thing though, the A8N-E doesn't support double sided memory sticks, so I'm not sure if your OCZ will work with it.

Did you mount the motherboard properly with standoffs? That's one of the top mistakes of first timers.

That's probably true, be sure you didn't overtighten them or the board circutry would be screwed.

Again, we can only offer suggestions, we can't give a definate answer.
Try booting without a harddrive and see if you can see the BIOS screen.
Be sure all the plugs are in securely (did you put both the 20-pin connector as well as the 4-pin connector)?
Try clearing your CMOS (move CMOS jumper to the 2-3 position, pull out battery for a minute, put the cap back on 1-2, put battery back in).

Erm, did you put your memory in slots 1 and 3? As in:
1 2 - 3 4

I,m guessing the memory is not the problem! Has the bios on the A8V been updated? Or does it have the bios that shipped with the board? I'm pretty sure the bios that shipped with that board doesn't support San Diego core chips, your probably getting the memory error because the mem controller on the SD can't communicate with the ram.

If this is the case you will have to have an older s939 CPU installed to update the bios. Or take it to a local shop and pay them to flash the bios. If you notice most of the sights that sell SD's list a warning with these CPU's "This CPU requires a bios update to post"

I have seen reports that some of the NF4 boards will post with the shipped bios, but I'm pretty sure all the NF3 boards have to have the update. Some of the NF3 boards required an update before a Winchester would post. Now that I think about it the A8V is the VIA chipset and it definately requires a bios update for any 90nm chip to post, so you will have to find a 130nm chip like a Newcastle or Clawhammer to flash the bios

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news:(

That is a VERY good point! I completely missed the "San Diego" thing in his specs!
Let us know your BIOS version.

:S. Venice/SanDiego came out at just around the same time.... it's highly likely. I would tell you what bios revision supports Venice/San Diego, but unfortunately ASUS's site says "Service Unavailable"

you might try booting your system outside of your case. Sometimes issues where the mobo is getting grounded out by the chassis can give strange results.

OK! I had to go on their *Taiwan* site becuase their US site was down. If you have a BIOS revision of 1005, you're all set with Venice/San Diego.

Minimite and Inspector Jihad - I'm not sure if the bios revision that comes with the board is written on the bios chip itself - you should go take a look. If it's anything below revision 1005, then you'll have to flash it to a new version. I've heard of some people calling ASUS and asking them for a new bios chip, or you could simply take it to a computer store and get it flashed or something.
