With the extra hundred, I imagine you could scrounge up a cheapie PCI vid card and another monitor so you could run duals...but that's not a gamers thing now is it? I figure you could prolly upgrade something...like the sound card or the hard drive, maybe the motherboard...it's all up to your preference... maybe throw in some fans... me..I'd scrap the speakers pocket the rest and hook it into my stereo.

I like this one a lot.

Building a $1400 computer is no challenge anymore. It's numbers like $500 or $4,000 that are worth striving for

Why do you need people to reccomend stuff for you to buy and put together? For $1400 you can get a kick ass system. Just reasearch what you want to get, and buy it.

I would definetly go for an AMD system, with at least 512 MB DDR ram. A GeForce 3 Ti500 or on of the new GeForce 4 Ti's would be great. An EPoX motherboard would be my suggestion, from my own experience with that brand. You will probably need at least a 60 Gig hard drive, but if you eat up space, and 80 Gig would be fine. 120 or 160 hard drives are overkill...For now.

You need a nice sound card. I am not the expert on those. CDRW and DVD are almost a must. Some nice speakers would be great too. And you can't go wrong with a Lian Li case, but if you don't have the cash, a Enlight will do fine.

Whatever. The fun in building a PC is reasearching what you want in it, and how cool you can make it, in my opinion.
