AKKK!

I finished installation and when I went to power on all I got was a flash from my rear exhaust fan and it trying to spin then everything dying. Do I have a short somewhere and how do I find it?

Please help,

Thanks,
C

I don't have a multimeter. I did unplug everything but the motherboard/mem/vid card and power switch and I get nothing. I tested this setup several days ago before installation and it worked fine.

Yeah.. you're not going to get anything.

Please read the page I linked. You don't need a multi-meter to turn the PSU on just to see if it's dead or not.

Jump the power supply with a paper clip the way it shows on that page to see if you can even get the PSU to turn on. You won't need a multi-meter to know that it's on. You should see the fan on the PSU spin.

Ok. Then you want to try it with just the mobo and PSU.

NO VIDEO CARD, NO RAM, NOTHING!

If that doesn't power up, pull the board from the case and put it on something non-conductive (wood desk, for example) and try it again.

I pulled everything out and retested the mobo/mem/vid card and it worked perfectly. I don't get it. Does this mean something is hitting the undercarraige of the mobo and causing a shortout?

No i figured that i needed to figure where the mobo is grounding but I cant see anywhere on the mobo where the contacts are long enough to be hitting the case to ground it out. I cant figure where the ground could be as everything that isnt flush on the case side is at least half the height of the mounting posts.

I applied one for every whole along the exterior of the board. I forgot to place the one located several inches on the interior.

did you apply too many standoffs?

Yup, had an extra one right under the main power hook up. I have fixed that and hooked everything up and am about to power on. Will check back in and let you know how it goes.
