definety performance in terms of speed is better in 3400+ 754 pin .. but overall performance is better in 3200+ 939 .. moreover u can easily overclock 939 to overtake the counterpart..
so chill n simply go for 3200+ venice ..

hey guys thankx alot for your input ive made my decision to get the 3200, heres what im thinking of getting.....

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Socket 939
Foxconn Winfast AMD NF4UK8AA nforce4 motherboard
Hitachi 80GB 7200rpm Serial ATA150 Hard Drive
2x512 dual channel ddr 400 ram ( some generic brand )
Samsung TS-H552 16x Dual Layer DVD drive
Pixelview GeForce 6600 GT AGP DDR3 128MB

if anyone has any comments they are all wellcome !! :) im currently trying to see about getting a better brand for the geforce 6600 gt not sure about pixel view :) oh yeh and the motherboard , on the net it says that this board comes with a nforce4 ultra chip but i think this is the standard one .... but its the cheapest i can find ...

Running a K8NF-9 in my main rig, wonderful motherboard!

I say option 1. S754 is outdated anyway...

a benq drive is more expensive over here(new zealand) than samsung :p thats the cheapest one i could find

defeneatly gonna try getting a better motherboard but i cant afford corsair or ocz ram its pretty expensive over here would it really offer a big performence gain ?

i did read about the 6800 and how you can unlock the pipelines gona see if i can get one of the stores over here to get me a deal since im buying two of these computers but kinda tight on the budget as it is with a 6600 GT

I thought so too......until about 9 months later:(

I knew I should have not bought a first revision motherboard with a first revision chipset.

I just got and installed a Aopen nCK804Ua-LFS from Newegg, and man, what a difference.

I think the Aopen board ($88.00 for just the Nforce4 chipset), is one of the better budget boards.

What happened?

Did your K8NF-9 came with a cooler on the chipset? It seems that ever since Gigabyte dropped it, users started reporting some issues with it.

The motherboard is fine and I don't see a need to change anything. You might want to get OCZ, Corsair, or Crucial RAM if you want. Good brands for the 6600GT are MSI, Leadtek, Galaxy, Gigabyte, BFG, and XFX. Other people may have different opinions about certain brands but those are 90% non fail.

Err, the 6800GT already has the same number of pipes and features as the 6800 ultra, just a lower clock speed, and most 6800GT"s will easily reach 6800Ultra speeds.

As for the OP, definaly go for option 1, don't go for the outdated 754, when 939 will still give you future upgrade options, like an X2.

Yep, when I got mine every retailer still showed it with the heatsink/fan on the chipset.

Low and behold mine came with just a passive heatsink. That thing would get so hot, that you couldn't keep your finger on it more than two seconds.

I think heat damaged the chipset, because it just got more and more unstable.

Wow, I can't believe that the price difference between 939 and 754 isn't WAY, WAY larger. The 754 makes sense in budget systems, but saving only a few dollars is hardly a budget system. The 754 platform has to be much more price effective if AMD is going to strech it's life as a Celeron killer...and that includes those rediculously overpriced mobos.

BTW - the KT800 chipset is nowhere near as nice as an nForce 3 or 4. I know, look at my sig... :)
