Hello. I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro on my computer:

PIII 700E
Iwill VD133 mobo
20GB HDD
Vibra 128
Network card
Microsoft Internet keyboard (PS/2)
Microsoft optical mouse (USB).

The installation runs smoothly until the final phase (where you setup user accounts and internet access): the keyboard 'freezes.' I can't type anything at all (numlock can't be turned off so it's as if the keyboard isn't responding). I've tried several keyboards with 3 clean installs and still no luck.

I can't log in as I need to type a password for the admin account. I can't even get into safe mode, however the recovery console works. I have tried removing all my cards (just incase it's an IRQ problem) and still no fix. I've had to go back to win2k.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. There's no help on Microsoft's website (suprise, suprise!) and I can't find any solutions on the internet.

Thanks in advanced.

Thanks for your reply.

The ps/2 keyboard works fine during POST but as soon as I get passed the Windows splash screen it freezes. I've never had this problem with Win2k or Win98. Could it be a BIOS setting problem?

its possible to be a bios problem... I've seen alot of weird things caused by old bios's and bad settings... I'd suggest flashing it to the newest available and then setting it to defaults... then try again. make sure ACPI is enabled in the bios to resolve any possible conflicts.

Try it without the MS Optical USB mouse. Those have known problems with causing lockups in systems, and it looks like you are using a Via KT133 chipset, those also have USB "issues", so the combination of the two is definately not good. FYI, MS is currently offering an exchange/replacement for their older Optical USB mice because of these sorts of problems. There is a thread in the HotDeals forum about it, or you could contact MS about it.
