Help lower the price of Gasoline

> Subject: GAS PRICES/PASS IT ON

>>> We are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer. Do you
>>> want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent,

>>>
>>> Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea:
>>>
>>> This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day"
>>> campaign that was going around last April or May!
>>>
>>> The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't
>>> continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It ! was more

>>> Please read it and join with us!
>>>
>>> By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is

>>> Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us

>>> And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
>>>
>>> How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas.
>>> But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to
>>> force a price war.
>>> ****************************************************************
>>> Here's the idea:
>>>
>>> For the rest of this year, DON"T purchase ANY gasoline from the two

>>> not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices.
>>> If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow
>>> suit.
>>> *******************************************************************
>>> But to have an impact, we need to reach literally million! s of
>>> Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, at this

>>> millions of people!!
>>>
>>> I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send

>>> at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at

>>>
>>> If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends

>>> Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people and DON"T
>>> purchase ANY

>>> from EXXON and MOBIL. That's all.
>>>
>>> If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you

>>> a

>>>
>>> How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to
>>> ten
>>> more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could

>>> think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we

>>>
>>> PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND
>>> KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

errrrrr this won't work....the people who buy expensive gas are the ones who have money in the first place, and don't worry much about the price.......so they don't care....so they'll keep buying....so they won't lower the price

This thing has been going around the net for years, not to mention someone else posted this on here a couple of days ago already...

This has been debunked so many times that it's not even funny. It completely ignores the way the economy actually works.

First of all, the increased demand at other stations would make the companies that are not being boycotted RAISE their prices.
Second, since supply at the non-boycotted companies would run short of demand, they would have to buy gasoline from their competitors. That's right, they'd buy extra gas from Exxon/Mobil.
Third, even if the second weren't true, Exxon/Mobil may be the single biggest, but they aren't even close to having a majority share of the market. Exxon/Mobil simply doesn't have the market clout to bring the price down.
Fourth, even if numbers two and three weren't true, Exxon/Mobil would just buy up some of the other, smaller, oil companies and change the signs on the stations to fool people. (And don't say that people would be too smart to fall for that. People are DUMB, people believe that E-mail, after all.)
