Please update your OP with the answers to the questions posed in the sticky. Also let us know if you need a Windows license.

start off with some basic parts here...

Windows 7 oem $99

Motherboard: Asrick mATX h77 $65 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157303)

CPU: i5 3450 $195 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116506)

RAM: 8gb ddr3 $29 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820144495)

Storage: 320gb for $45 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152244) if thats not enough they have a 1TB drives for about $90

Graphics: Visiontek 7850 2GB w/ far cry 3 $180 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814129266)

PSU: Corsair cx500 $40 after rebate (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139027)

OD: Lite on dvdrw $18 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...a-_-na&AID=10440897&PID=3332167&SID=u00000687)

that leaves about $29 in your budget for a case. If I were you, I'd bump my budget up a little over $700 so I can get a better case and more storage.

my girl will kick in a extra 100.00 so im looking at 800.00budget...will that help.

For another $100 I would get a cheap solid state drive to use for the os

Really not worth it in a gaming machine on this budget. I would put a bit towards a nicer case if nothing worthwhile can be found for $30, and then put the rest toward notching the GPU up as far as possible.

After upgrading to a ssd I cannot imagine not having one. He can pick up a 60gb model for around $75, that still leaves him with $50 to spend on a case

Or for a truly portable system:

mitx board $90 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157310

Mitx case $50 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119261

Plus all other parts listed above (CPU, ram, storage, video card, and power). That would put you at $756 but I only recommend paying more for the mitx if you truly need a portable system

Should be able to play most games on max at 1080p just don't try something crazy like enable uber sampling in the witcher 2.

Re: windows your friend is incorrect. That license is tied to that laptops motherboard

The Prodigy is a very nice case. It's a bit big compared to most ITX cases, but that means it will be able to fit most anything you want to put in it. Dmoney's build with this case and the Mini-ITX mobo is pretty much spot on in terms of budget ($786 AR).

Sorry to hear that. 🙁 It's a shame that you had to downgrade your CPU, but you did get a bit better GPU this time around.
