HELP -- LOOKING for a webdesigner that can help me improve some feature on a website

only a college student cant afford much. trying to help a struggling dad's friend out.

I need a forum type function added to this website. similar to many forum on the web, account creation, logon etc?
Also need a "shopping cart feature" and a secure way to accept credit cards.

That all.

Let me know.

It isn't that difficult. There are lots of free forum scripts out there. Many hosts have a 1-click install option even, but if not the getting started/help pages for scripts like phpBB and whatnot are quite good.

Re credit cards, that is tougher since you need SSL and licenses and whatnot to do it on your own site. There are sites that will handle it for you (you direct over to them when it's time to do the sale), however, like:
http://2checkout.com/
Might be worth just starting with one of those, and working your way up to full processing later.

Yeah, it's not hard at all... give phpBB a try and for CC processing, try Verisign's PayflowLink.

thanks for the help and info guys, ill look into that, but for now my offer is still available. the main site just need a check out page that looks similar to the current website. the forum page is going to be a place for help and setup etc and probably using it own domain name/website via link.

he can process cc, i just need a page that can send CC number securely. could be a single or 2 page process. order page then a confirmation page? with info sent to a designated email.

Heh, that's probably a common situation now that I think about it. Having manual cc processing capability already due to owning a brick and mortar or something. I wonder if the license for that could be reused with some of the online shopping cart tools (the merchant license is one of the expensive parts of doing your own automated online cc processing).

Be careful with email, though. I think by default it sends via plain text which means the packets with CC information could be easily snooped. I know most mail servers support SSL for retrieving your mai. Not sure about how to send securely, though. Would have to check.

I implemented this for someone a while back... what I did was make a basic shopping cart, then at the end display a list of all their products in a printable format. When they submit, a copy of the items will be emailed to the site owner and the customer with either a link to paypal to complete the purchase or the phone number to call to complete the order. it's not perfect but if you're on a budget or are a small operation it might fit your needs. hope that was helpful

what do these verisign and 2checkout actually do beside cc procession? a order page hosted on their server or some kind of software they provide for you site to be secure?

hey selarom, currently we have this ordering page where they place what they like to order and click submitt and we recieved an email. what we need it a some shopping cart and/or confirmation of what they order. or what a normal ordering process experience that is common on the web should be like. ygpm
