Hello.

Actually, the computer isn't for me -- like most good AT'ers, I build my own. But a friend wants to buy a new computer, and when he showed me the $3,000 Dell he was going to buy, I told him to hold off until I do some research first.

So I'm looking for a site that sells computers, and will allow him to customize the parts of the computer... and preferably, they would sell for less than what Dell sells theirs for. I read about one the other day in a thread here... it was www.cyber____.com . I don't remember what's in the ___ .

Anyway, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I was the one whom recommended it. Cyber Power Systems. Another that allows more customization (and might be pricier) is GamePC.

Hello,

My sister ordered one from them around two years ago and has not had any problems with her system(PIII 500). They do allow more component selections than some of the others(as seen on Pricewatch). I'd also recommend them.

check out some of the systems over http://www.alienware.com/ some nice prebuilts (not sure if they customize, maybe), but they are nice and for your friend, since he was going to slap 3k on a dell, he might be happy with one from there, just a thought ..

[edit] after looking over the site, the answer is Yes, you can customize, happy shopping [/edit]

i agree with neural, if you're friend is willing to drop 3k on a system, then you should definitely consider alienware. their systems are a bit expensive, but you get good support and service and quality systems in return.

Thanks a lot for the responses & suggestions.

I will recommend those sites to my friend... furthermore, I will recommend myself to him, and see if he'll pay me a few hundred bucks to build it. ;)

Thanks again guys!

Stay away from Alienware. They're still using the AMD 760 chipset, and they keep pushing the P4 like it's God. Furthermore, they use the same case as cyberpowersystem does--the Antec SX1030 (well, technically it's a Cheng Ming).

well im not going to get into a debate .. but the 760 was a good chipset, ill agree how they push the p4, but you can simply not buy the p4.. and about the case, yes thats true .. point? im not saying they are the best that have ever been but probably a good choice ..
Oh, btw, i would advise against hiring yourself out to ur friend like that .. main reason is .. you become tech support, especially since you are friends he may take advantage of that for support .. and eh it can get weird .. but just a thought, good luck ..
