I primarily use my laptop for gaming these days, especially with my new rig: Sandy Bridge i7-2720QM, GTX 485m, 16GB DDR3 RAM, Intel 120GB SSD, 750GB Seagate HDD. But I do have a desktop gaming rig. I used my old case that I had my gaming desktop in for my Windows Home Server because it has lots of drive bays, and moving gaming components to the case I was using for my WHS.
I currently have: Core 2 Quad Q9550, 8GB DDR2, eVGA GTX 260 core 216, OCZ Vertex 2 SSD, 2 x 1TB HDD's
Instead of spending $50 on a new case, I figured I'd rather try to update my GPU to something more powerful. I know I can sell my GTX 260 and net ~ $75. So I'd be willing to dump another $75 into it and spend $150 total.
One restriction, it can't be longer than 10.5". I could probably swing 10.75" but it'd be close to touching components in the rear of the case.
So what could you recommend for a GPU that is decently more powerful than the GTX 260 core 216 that would run at that length? I'd be willing to trim or clip the back of the GPU to fit if it was just a trim to cosmetic components.
edit: I've been a fan of eVGA over the years, but not required. Seems the GTX 460 cards are only 8.5" or smaller. I'm considering this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130562
