I'm trying to load Windows XP onto the new system I just built. Everything powered on OK and the CMOS BIOS show all my drives. I was able to F-Disk and reformat using a nifty loading ultility called EZInstaller, which has always worked great for me in the past. My DVD/CD writer was given the letter U by EZ Installer. When I get to where the XP cd is starting to be read I get this error message;

Windows XP Setup

The script file specified with the /u command line switch

C:\WINNT.SIF

contains a syntax error on line 24

Setup cannot continue. Press enter to exit

I hope someone out there can tell me whats going on and how to correct it. Thanks.

If you have a Win 98 or ME startup disk I would suggest to reformat the drive using the startup disk.

You can use the Win XP CD and do a full format of the hard drive as well.

Well after formatting and trying over 5x I gave up, but for the heck of it I reformatted again and tried Windows 98se and it worked like a charm. So then I went a step further and tried to install XP over 98 and that worked like a charm also. So now everything is running great. Why that cd didn't work before I'll never know, unless someone out there can come up with a theory.
