hello ATOTers...
i'm just starting out on my guitar and wanted to see which way is the best to start learning
i know some BASIC BASIC BASIC chords, and how to read off tabs, but that's about it
should i get formal lessons/instructions with a teacher
or just go online and look around
or get a book?
thanks for the feedback :)

What kind of music do you want to play?

I took lessons a couple years ago but all I had was an acoustic and I just learned notes and chords and stuff I didn't want to play. So then I got an electric and quit lessons and just got punk tabs online. Power chords power chords power chords. Woo!!

It depends who you are. Some people say that learning from a teacher is teh only way, but if that is true, then how can Dave Gorhl play guitar? He only had lessons for around a year and quit because he didn't learn a thing. Look at him now. He might not be a phenominal player, but he it is now his profession.

A good book I like is Thr Guitar Handbook by Ralph Denyer. Very good stuff. Also, buy tab books (or go online, but I like the books) for your favorite band. I have books on Pink Floyd, Nirvana and a bunch more. It is always fun for me to play along with the cd.
