I have a Toshiba 5200 laptop, had it for about 2 years. The whole screen will operate normally, and then for no apparent reason it will start to flash (not on and off flash, like bright, not so bright, etc.) Its incredibly frustrating, if you need more info to help diagnose Ill be here all day.

edit -- it seems to only be on the right side of the screen. It will be ok for awhile, then all the sudden start varying brigthness, the left side of the screen is unaffected. This is really frustrating, any help is appreciated.

SOmethig power related is loose, your power brick is failing, or your wall outlet is bad.....The same thing happened to my laptop. What is happening is that your laptop is switching between your battery and the wall power. Take your battery out b/c if you keep it in long enough, your battery won't be able to hold its charge.

I would agree with you except that it does it even with the power cable disconnected.

Hmm....well, I never fully fixed it on my Gateway....I opened it up to look around and I ended up frying my touchpad and my PS/2 port no longer works:(.....it went away eventually....I have never had it go to a pink hue though.....

Well the screen died about 2 hours after my post. I was sitting there, all the sudden this really red spot appeared in the lower right of the screen... I said ****** this isnt good, it then travelled to the eft side, and as soon as it went off screen the LCD screen just went black.

I am currently using the laptop still with an external monitor connected. This means that the videocard and motherboard are not the problem correct? Im hoping its not going to take a new screen to fix this because its a 1600x1200 crystal clear or whatever they called it, and I hear those are incredibly expensive. Plus I dont need more expenses, I just replaced the HDD after it crashed not a month ago.

Any insight? Ill probably take it to NexInnovations this afternoon. I dont think the backlights gone because then Id still be able to see somethign very faint correct?

Thanks again,

That sucks...my lcd on my gateway hasn't died yet, but teh screen definately is not as bright as it used to be. My g/f's laptop has brighter screen now and her laptop is older and cheaper:( I got used to it, but when I put it next to another screen, it sucks:(

If the backlight died, you would still be able to see stuff on the screen, so then no, it doesn't sound like the backlight died.

Before I took it anywhere, I would open it up and reseat the LCD connector.
