I have been working with the Problem for about 3 days now and it is as follows.
Turn it on
half the time it works
other times BIOS hangs, black screen or post screen then it hangs
win98se installation will not take either, gets stupid errors.
PS - 300 watt Powerman (not AMD aproved)
XP - 1600+
plain vanilla setup.
swaped video cards, did nothing, maybe made it worse.
Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated.🙂

What mobo you using?
It could be your RAM. Try changing it out.

Edit: Saw that your FIC was a SS7 board... whoops 😱
Edit Edit: Damn I'm stupid.... N/m

Try upping the DDR voltage. Mine sometimes has problems cold booting with the default DDR voltage. Works fine after I changed it to 2.75v

If you just change slots, but use the same memory, that's not gonna tell you a thing.

I'm having the exact problem. Did you ever find out what the reason was? Or does anyone else happen to know? TIA

Many have problems with seating dram modules on KR7A. You really have to seat the dram modules HARD.

Recommend you take the board out of the case, support board from underneath and be absolutely certain that the memory module seats with a solid snap. Attempting to mount memory modules with board mounted could cause physical board damage.

Another common problem is incorrect cpu-recognition by KR7A BIOS, assigning incorrect multiplier for cpu. This is easily handled by selecting 'User Define' for 'CPU Operating Speed', manually setting correct multiplier and manually setting desired FSB Clock Speed.

I'm unfamiliar with the Powerman PS. My Antech 300W is fine with KR7A/RAID. Check the PS voltages in BIOS or Hardware Doctor, especially the +5, +12 and Vsb voltages.

Hope this helps!

Yes I made sure the memory was in. I've been reading a alot of posts on other boards also and one method suggested seems to be working (so far) for me. Just hope the stability now stays this way. What I did was use memory slots 2 and 4. I then upped my DDR voltage to 2.65v. However when I ran memtest, it froze at approx 2hrs 35mins. But things seem to be a bit normal now, just hope it stays.

Get an AMD approved power supply, don't skimp on a good power supply, 400w recommended.
I'd be willing to bet your problems will disappear.
