if you do not have Arctic silver thermal compound
then take the tape off that protects the blob, and use it.

look in cooling/overclocking forums.

i used to live in Saratoga Springs and worked in Schenectady for a while

GE?
contractor at GE, field testing gas turbines, it was a cool job, but too much travel with a family, nice for a single guy though, expense accounts in foriegn countries are cool

i lived in Schenectady at one time;back in the late 60's GE ruled!
Then came the mid 70's and GE went downhill;at least for employment, 🙁

I still live not far from Sch'dy closer to Albany more rainstorms in the area today.

's for you sir.

Just use some Super Glue. I ran out of AS one time so I decided to try it and w00t! I got my 1600XP up to 2800XP with a stock HSF

Scrape off the putty and apply the glue
Place on the HSF quickly, if not just throw it in your oven on 400 for 10 minutes until the glue loosens up.
Place in the freezer to allow for optimum bonding then stick the CPU in the board. *

*Superglue works good here as well, you don't want to take the chance of it falling out. If you don't get it in in time, do the oven trick, might want to turn it down to 350 though, don't want to melt the board.

take out the razor blade

then instead of cleaning the putty, kill yourself.

then use AS3.

Oh man.. That made me laugh 😀

Luden.

i didn't see that coming... i cracked up and had people looking at me funny at work😱

AS3 haha

that's stuff's a ripoff

where's that benchmark the guy did comparing AS3, RadioShack paste and even butter?

IIRC butter actually beat AS3...

replace the putty with a small piece of plywood, if you wrap the plywood in aluminan foil it help disappate heat faster
