[Help!] - Jailbreak 2G

I tried to jailbreak my old 2G for our son to use as an iPod touch. It doesn't have a sim card. I apparently did it wrong and I read that I have to erase all of iTunes from computer including registry items and reinstall some old version of iTunes. Is this correct? Is there an easier way? or did I break the phone and it's trash now?

dude go get whited00r and just a full shift-restore on that image. then copy your apps back one by one. no need to futz with itunes at all. period. you use itunes to shift-restore the whited00r binary and b00m done.
 
The only problem is, this 2G just has Apple logo on the screen with the waiting icon on top of it and that's it. The waiting icon is not moving. So iTunes does not recognize it...
