Help! I've lost the urge to upgrade!! :(

I used to sell off my old parts and buy the latest stuff whenever I got some money saved up. Now that I have a full-time job, I don't want it anymore. I can't explain it. None of the games/apps that I run need a more powerful CPU/GPU (except for one), so I figure I'll wait until I actually need to. My $5 keyboard has become very flaky lately. This, if anything, is especially in need of upgrading. What do I do? I take it apart and clean it so that it works like new instead of buying an MS or Logitech wireless one. What is wrong with me?

im depressed i dropped alot of money on my sound system and i dont listen to music anymore,I MEAN ALOT OF MONEY

If you got money lying around, you can pay my ISP $50. I owe them $50 for exceeding their hour limit by fifty hours and I'm broke too, I only have $1.43 left on my credit card 🙁

I can relate... I bought a GeForce 3 a while back, and realize that now the game I spend the most time playing is Civ III. Doom III, however, looks very intriguing 😀

Yeah, I know. I was reading your thread. Did you not know the terms? $50 here in Toronto is three months worth of cable 😀

yea after clicking on animated sprites in diablo 2 for about 40 hours i realized it kinda sucked compared to a good movie😉

netflix is kewl🙂

You can turn around your upgrade apathy by starting to read lots of reviews and roundups for MB's, CPU's and memory. If that isn't enough read some HS and HD reviews.
After a week or two of reviews you'll forget all about what apps or games will actually need upgraded hardware. You'll only be focused on what the various benchmarks show.

In the mean time you could check out some utility software reviews, buy what looks good to ya 😀

We're here to help you through this troubling time 😱

Yep, time to check my 3DMark2001 score again...

That where you are wrong...

Instead of upgrading, you should make your computer(s) reproduce. 🙂

As in a "von Neumann computer", or some kind of weird motherboard mitosis, where the first stage is when your Athlon XP mobo magically turns into a dual Athlon MP mobo...?

Yep, me too.. It's all her fault. :disgust: 😀

I haven't upgraded anything in like a year. Last thing I did was buy like 384mb of ram and a 45gb hdd.. lol

Still happy with my K6-3/400 @ 112x4=448MHz @ 2.6v 🙂

What I meant was start collecting as many computers as you can... do some cluster/distributed computing 🙂

I am almost in the same boat, but I rip DVD's more than I watch them or play games. That may change today though as I will be picking up GTA3. I shall see. 😉

i suppose the trick is to always make sur eyou don't have the best, so that you always have something to upgrade to...
though not wanting to spend money is understandable... do what i do, break something so that you have no choice BUT to upgrade... helps justify spending the money..
( in the last week i sold my perfectly good inwin q500 modded by me for 1/2 what i spent on it, to spend $210 for a lian li windowed case, and another $100 in a CC, neonwire, blue and white LEDS, try justifying that for no reason =\)

Just wait a couple of hardware generations. I recently upgraded from a PII 400mhz to my Athlon 1800+ setup. Wait a short bit and get yourself a 64bit Hammer box... 😀

Pundit: Sorry guy, but there is no hope for you. Cancel your AT account, cancel your internet account, throw the computer in the closet, and go outside and play.

I too lost my urge to upgrade about a year ago. Why spend money on something faster if everything is already fast enough? I don't think I have upgraded anything in almost a year. I finally decided a few weeks ago to trade in my two desktops for one laptop. The reason I did not do it earlier is because laptops are supposed to be so unupgradeable. Well, I learned the laptop I got is FULLY upgradeable! 😀 I think the urge to upgrade is returning. So... RossMAN got any hot deals on a 256MB PC2100 200pin SODIMM??? 😛

The moral of the story is get a laptop. Then you will have a reason to upgrade. 😀

The first part is the hardest: not upgrading....

Then when you realize you haven't missed out on much, you realize how pointless upgrades were.

Way ahead of ya, bro. Still running Win98 on OCed Celerons here with 3Dfx based video too. Turned gaming over to consoles and never looked back. I'm looking forward to overclocking a P4 soon, but I don't feel the need to hurry. Never dabbled in the AMD issues and other "fun" at all, and I sure as hell ain't sorry about that! My biggest PC concern of late, is getting the power supply fans quieter, as well as the whine from 7200RPM drives. Not exactly geekish is it? 😱
