to make a long story short, we are switching domain today, and the IT guy lost my user profile once we've switched over to the new domain, my old user profile was replaced with a new one. So basically all my excel, word, etc files that were in my desktop directory are gone. My backup files in the network drive are far from up to date. Is there a way to replace the new profile with the old one? I can see there are 2 profiles with my username, one is my username and the other one is like "username.000". I've downloaded an undelete problem, and it found my files, but they want me to pay for it before I can undelete them. Is there a free undelete for NT out there?

Thanks!

The sooner you realize that the data you lost wasn't that important to you or anyone else, the better off you will be. Look at all the things you've gained from this? Forgive my angst, but anything produced by anyone in Excel in today's work place is worthless anyway. I am considering writing a book or editorial on how Microsoft Excel is responsible for the decline of the capitalist marketplace and has singlehandedly permitted idiots to get jobs they are not smart enough to do, save for piling useless trinkets of data in a spreadsheet and generating a colorful but equally meaningless chart from it.

I could give you a lecture on backing up your data, but I'll spare you. Get someone with esclated powers to replace it for you.

I dont think your files are deleted, just browse to the other user directory.

Sound's like the IT guy screwed up. We're going through the same transition to a new doman name, and they moved everything over for us. But check the other profile ending in .000 it should have your old stuff in it.

I did browse thur the other user dir, but they were pretty much empty, I also did a search for *.xls in C drive, none of my files show up either. I think I have admin privilege on my machine too. I am lost.
