My wife left the computer on at home this afternoon after finishing updating some data into quickbooks. She said that the computer froze and had some weird data on the screen. After she rebooted it worked and she backed up her work. I went in to the computer room to check out the computer and it wouldnt' reboot.

The screen get garbled when first booting up (before it even POSTS)... everything is somewhat garbled including the BIOS screens. I haven't worked on computers much since 2004 when I built this one after opening a new business.

Anyway... I hope this screen demonstrates what I mean: Picture

Is this the monitor or video card? I may have my old ATI agp card laying around (8500). My system specs are in my signature.

in regular mode my system won't even boot up... I'm writing this in safe mode?

One other weird thing... she used quickbooks, played her sims 2 game, and then went into quickbooks again... It worked but, she had to reboot when she got the garbled output? After she rebooted it was fine but, not any longer?

Nevermind.... close thread. I found my old ATI 8500 and put it in my rig and everything works. It looks like I need a new video card to carry me to next year and then a new computer.
