help installing XP PRO

hey guys -- having some trouble installing XP PRO. sometimes while it is "registering devices" or while "installing devices" the computer has an error that says the HOST IEEE 1394 Controller isn't windows verified or something. or else it just freezes up at certain points and won't go on.... i RMA'd the hard drive and it's still doing it with the new one. thinking it might be a MOBO problem. please help! even suggestions will help me out.

oops i mean, while "registering devices" i get a "memory at _________ location could not be read" error. the __________ is a bunch of numbers, but i'm sure you all know what error i'm talking about..... could this be a memory problem? otherwise, i get the ^^ other error while "installing devices"

Disable the onboard firewire card in BIOS try again.
