I have tried using all 3 different boot floppies (floppy32.fs, floppyB32.fs, and floppyC32.fs) and they all give me the same error code (this happens while the floppies are still loading the install program):

Now my problem is that I just can't seem to find that damn "any" key! J/K 😛 Seriously though, I originally thought that it was a problem with the way the HDDs werer setup (2 120GB IMB's on the same IDE cable) so I separated them, and still the same error. I tried booting with only one drive, and again, the same error. I managed to install windows 2000 advanced server, and redhat 8 on this system with no problems and I have used the freebsd floppies to install on my laptop (which I am struggling to set X up on) so Im sure they arent the problem. Here are my system specs

I have googled for the error "panic: extent_free ....." but I have been unable to come up with anything usefull, although I did see a post by someone who had a very similar problem as mine, but no one replied. Any help with this would be appreciated, TIA.

Im using windows xp/2000 (with ntfs partitions so I cant boot to dos and still see the hdd) so I have to use ntrw. I guess I'll try using rawrite tomorrow when I have access to a win9x machine.

Hey, you know any MS window user worth a grain of salt HAS to have some Dos diskettes laying around somewhere 😛

There are boot disk images laying around the web, I even found a place to download 6.22...
but if the idea of stealin' software or shelling out 300 bucks to MS for a obsolete OS is to much for you, there are some nice alternatives like PCdos, Drdos, and especially FreeDOS...

Very usefull stuff having a couple basic OS's laying around incase you need them, like rawriting or ghosting or playing old games... just my 2 cents

Looks like that chipset may be unsupported according to the i386 page. If so, I'm not sure you've got any options. If it's trying to use DMA, which the boot message suggests it might, there may be some way to turn that off.

Try throwing in a supported PCI IDE card.

I guess I should have refreshed before replying 😛

Thanks for the responses guys. I was really hoping it wouldnt come down to a hardware compatibility issue, but it seem that is the case. I couldnt find a way to disable DMA on the motherboard in either the bios or with jumpers. Oh well there's always Net and Free Bsd...

FreeBSD probably has the best chance of supporting it. If you haven't already though, try an OpenBSD 3.3-beta snapshot.
