Help! Installing AMD stock HSF

Hi,

Motherboard: Asus A8N-E Rev. 2
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+

I can't seem to lock the HSF into place properly. After applying a fair amount of force to ensure both sides are clipped in, the 'arm' becomes stiff and can't rotate at all.

Yes, this is essentially my first build.

What could I be doing wrong? My HSF doesn't look as if it's the same as this one.

Any suggestions, or pointers to modern guides?

make sure the side without the arm is hooked into place and put a lot of force on the arm so that it will rotate. I thought I was going to break the arm off, but after a certain amount of force was applied, it easily swang into the locking position.

Also, make sure your CPU is seated correctly, with the metal chrome bar pulled down and locked horizontal with the motherboard.

Holy cr*p, that _is_ a lot of force!!

2 things:

1. The top of the arm doesn't appear to be exactly parallel to the HSF, and:
2. The part of the clip that runs through the HSF moves up against the one side of the HSF.

... is this all normal?

I installed a A64 stock HSF a while back and it was the easiest HSF installation ever. I don't remember using a lot of force to lock the clip. Perhaps you got a borked HSF.

Mine needed a lot of force and it works fine now so ???. It was a lot easier than some aftermarkets I have used for my P4 but still, I thouhgt I was going to break that sucka or smash my cpu.
