Running SP3 of XP and want to install this theme: http://neel-ekb.deviantart.com/art/Krystal-XP-1-6-Black-Gloss-89623705

Apparently, it's impossible. I've been dicking around with stuff all night (Styler, UxTheme.dll, etc.) and I cannot get this to work.

I have to settle for the Royale Noir XP theme, which is cool, but I want the glossy black.

Can anyone give me instructions on how to do this? It just never, ever has shown up in the Appearance Tab on my Display.

Usually themes would have a .theme and shellstyle.dll, I did hack together one to get in the appearance tab but it still looked like it was missing something.

I tried the UXTheme.dll in that thread for SP3 and for whatever reason, it wouldn't let me delete the file. I tried using the Replacer and it still wouldn't show up.

I'm not sure what you mean by "delete the file", the old one? If so, I'd just rename it. Try safe mode, or a live cd if you can't do it while logged into your account.

Well, I'm pretty sure I had UXTheme.dll patched and it still wouldn't show up.

Does anyone have know exactly where the file is supposed to be placed? It was an ".msstyles" file and I had put it in C:/Windows/Resources/Themes, but wasn't sure if I need another folder or what. Also, does anything need to go in there besides the .msstyles file?

In the comments on DeviantArt, it said people were able to do it by using Styler, but I can't figure that out either. Argh.

Appreciate the help I've gotten so far though.

It looks like you're doing it right. Just make sure you're following the instructions in the link I gave. I haven't done this with SP3, but it looks like it should work.
