HELP, I'm Unable to access internet on new pc

I upgraded my rig in my sig with an an35n-ultra, 2x256mb pc3200 ram, and a mobile barton 2400+. After having my 60gb hdd fail one me (it appears, freezes at 81% when formatting it) I finally get it running and win2k installed except that for some reaosn I can't access the internet, I can't get an IP/DNS server. I have cable and by default win2k installs Client for MS, TCP/IP, and File Sharing, which is all you need I believe. Everything is on DHCP/auto proxy which is what I've used for years. When I try to go online in IE it says no internet connection detected, "try again" or "work offline". I dont know what else to do?? There isnt anything to configure any other time I've set it up!

Oh and BTW, the ethernet card does indeed work since I then installed NetBEUI so I could get my files I saved off of my brother's computer which is connected by a hub, so the network works just I can't access the internet... ??? Please help!

Disable or uninstall your NIC drivers, then download an reinstall new ones. Then check the little LEDs around the NIC card. There will be at least one, and as many as three. See if the lights are working as the online support says they should. NIC cards go out all the time. But they are inexpensive. Maybe it is time to upgrade that component.

I forgot to mention that I'm using the onboard Realtek ethernet w/ the drivers from the included cd (I will look for ones on the website). But yeah I'll check the lights if there is any. I tried removing TCP/IP and reinstalling but still didnt work.

BUt the ethernet card itself seems to work considering I can send and recieve stuff through the network, and if I enabled the icon it does say LAN connected, and shows sent and recieved packets... but still no internet. When I run ipconfig from the command prompt it just says Autoconfiguration DNS Number (it's not the normal DNS I would see) and I have no IP, etc... Normally I would have my ip (24.xxx.xx.xxx) and I would recognize the other numbers.

In Win2K we have seen that sometimes after installing an update that you need to install newer drivers for certaind devices. We saw this even for a simple 2 button mouse.
