Help identifying CPU

I bought a cpu from the FS forum and just received it. It is supposed to be a 1Ghz TBird. I have only used Durons in the past and I am not sure if it is really a tbird. It says AMD Athlon on the core. Is this correct for tbird core? I dont want to install it till I'm rather sure it is what I paid for. I am at work and will post the other markings when I get home.

on the core, i think on the top line of writing, you should see a "1000" somewhere. if you do, then that's the speed of your chip

Tbirds have athlon on the core and as quad said there is a indication of speed somewhere on that core as well.
 
yeah.. tbirds ARE athlons.. they just have the full speed cache.. 🙂 what you got is good.. now what colour is it?
 
If it is a socketA cpu (square thing) and it doesn't say duron, it is a thunderbird. "classic" athlons only come in slot form. Also, when it is booting, look at the cache size: tbirds have 256, classics have 512. tbird is a codename - they're techinically called athlons.
