Question Help identifying a chip on motherboard.

Need help identifying the chip in the pic so I can order one. I went on a couple sites to try and find it, but there are too many and I don't really know how to find it. I think it's a mosfet? of some kind. Any help would be appreciated! Btw, this is near the battery connection terminals on an HP Omen 15.

So I went to look the chip up and thought there would be just one BC856....but there are tons of different ones. Ughh!

Unless it's serving some delicate analogue function, the exact type is unlikely to matter, though getting one with higher gain is usually a good idea.

It's on an HP Omen laptop near the battery connection terminals. And there's not much else near this area. If I go find one and post the link, could you please help in verifying that it's at least in the ballpark?

Notice the max current is 100 mA. Does that seem low to you or no?

100mA is normal for those. If the required part really is a BC856, then the one you've found should be a suitable replacement.

Awesome, just ordered 3. Now I have to figure out my Samsung TV that won't power on. Know any good TV repair forums? Thanks a lot for the help! I'll let you know how it goes.

Got my chip today and it looks like the wrong one. I placed it on the board to the right of the burnt one.

Sorry, I should have got you to measure it, since it's hard to get a sense of scale from a photo. Being similar to SOT-23 but not as wide, it's probably a SOT-323 package. From the link that CZroe posted before, there are some BC856 available in that size.

It might be possible to solder the larger device in there anyway, if you bridge the pads to the pins with blobs of solder. The pinout is the same.

Not a problem, I'm just grateful for your help. They were like 13 cents each, cost under $9 to get em shipped....lol. Not sure I could have measured it anyway. Maybe put a penny next to it or something, but that's not very accurate. I was thinking the same thing you were as far as trying it anyway and bridging to the leads. it will either work or it won't right?...lol. Thanks again for the help and I'll post back with results. might be a couple days, wish me luck!
