I'm trying to set my old Cyrix rig up as a network server, so as to free up a PCI slot in my newer machine currently used by a NIC.
anyways, the Cyrix is running Win98SE off a 364MB hard drive (honestly, what else would fit on it?)
anyways, Win98 is set up fine. after much to-do I finally got two network cards set up in the machine simultaneously.
they are a generic CNet Pro200 PCI (b'lieve it's rated for 100mbit) NIC, and a Diamond Multimedia HomeFree PNA/Ethernet NIC (the kind that works thru phone line as well as with cat5's)
I got a 'net connection working on the CNet card just fine. Websites and all. And the Diamond card read an IP address too (but a local address of course). Then I installed ICS, trying to use the CNet card as the 'net connection, and the Diamond card for LAN. Reboot.
No internet connection.
Winipcfg lists only the Diamond card now.
Network properties shows the Diamond, the CNet, and Internet Connection Sharing adapter, as well as all the protocols you'd expect. I ran through the properties for each one and they lok fine.
Fearing a fluke, I uninstalled ICS and repeated, only to find the same results.
Now, the Diamond card is doing what it's supposed to, using address 192.168.0.1 and being ready to route the cable connection.
Why on earth is the other card no longer showing up?
And how might I fix it?
TIA!
