I don't know what happened and I might find out later when everyone wakes up again but anyways, I got home tonight and at first there were no icons on my desktop, just the text below them and all my quicklaunch icons were gone, but if you put the mouse over where they should be they still like bulged or whatever like they were there. So i opened up start where all the actual icons were gone, replaced with like windows little thumbnail computer screen thing and i went to shut it down and it didn't really do anything so i just hit the reboot button on my tower. It all started back up but this time i have the same little thumbnail icon like in the start menu for all my icons, like they haven't loaded yet. Strangely the only one that actually shows up is iTunes, I don't know if it's cuz i opened it up to see if the icon would show up when i did (tried it for other prgrams, doesn't work) or what but i really don't know what's going on, it's pretty weird. Enlighten me!

Well if this means anything, if i delete something to the recycle bin that icon comes back until I empty the recycle bin, then it just goes back to how it was.

First thing I would do is run System Restore. Restore back to a couple of days ago and see what happens.

Failing that (meaning if System Restore won't work, which you should report here) try this while booted into Windows:

Put the XP CD in the drive.

Exit out of the startup screen when it appears on the desktop.

Now, click the Start Button.

Click Run

Type in the Run box (without the quotation marks!): "sfc /scannow" and click OK.

Note there is a space between "sfc" and "/scannow".

You'll see a small rectangular box pop up on the screen called the System File Checker.

It will show you a blue progress bar as it checks your files. It WON'T tell you what it's repairing, if anything. When it's done, it will simply disappear from your screen. Reboot after it's finished. See where you are now with the icons.

Try System Restore first and save yourself some hassles.
