HELP: I think I just deleted my files forever...

I have Windows XP Pro...

I moved some important docs to my shared file on my home network....I then deleted the files from my desktop...

Anyways I just deleted them from my shared location thinking I still had them on my desktop...unfortunately I forgot I already deleted them and emptied the recyle bin....I look in the recycle bin for my recently deleted files off the shared location and they are not in there!?!?!?

Ummm, anyone can tell me where I can find my deleted files, you will be my new best friend...

PS. I did a search for one of the files I knew the name of and it did not come up.....:Q

there was a program called "lost and found" that should help you unfortunatley
a) i'm not sure if that's the right name
b) it's no longer made, but is supposed to be free somewhere on the web

let me try and find it......

For future reference, files deleted remotely over a network will not show up in any recycle bin. Once they're gone...they're gone.

Norton System Works 2002 has an undelete function wizard that leads you through undeleting files as long as they have not been over written.

I believe Norton Utilities since the DOS versions has had an undelete function built into them.

anyone know where ost and found can be found on the net? I saw it posted here like a year ago...

Don't know about lost and found but Ontrack's Easy Recovery worked great for me a couple months back, it saved one of my users a lot of file that were deleted.

OK I used easy recovery 6.0...

It recovered some files...but .pdf , .mp3, and .xls files were all screwed up....

I did recover some important .doc files though....thank you all for your help...

Never will leave important stuff on my share drive. 🙁

Do you have System Restore monitoring the drive?

XP has a lite version of Go Back installed by default. Check it out!
