Help. I scratched my heatsink.

i tried to get the old pad off my sk6 with a knife. i hear that wasn't a good idea. well, i scratched the crap out of it. can i still use this sink? will paste fill in the cracks? what's the best way to get those old pads off?

thanks.x

Don't sweat it. You can lap those scratches out, you'll just have to start with a courser grit. I usually wet sand mine against a piece of glass and start out with 400grit. You will probably start with 180grit.

Lapping is polishing a surface while maintaining its suface integrety. You want to polish those scratches out yet keep the suface flat, because that is what was intended.
