I live in India so the prices are bound to go up a bit but not this big, my freind just got a new pc and I suspect he's been duped into paying a lot for his pc....the components are pretty low grade, I just need to confirm it in here, if anyone else lives in India even better....the bigger problem is they hav'nt even given the individual component prices in the bill and still my freind took it as normal :(

Here are the specs -

P4 2.40 GHZ

512 DDR Ram

Samsung multeemedia keyboard

Motherboard Intel 845 GL

3 button wheel mouse [samsung]

Samsung sw252B CR writer

an FDD drive

400 watts PSU ATX cabinet

SBS230 speakers

80GB samsung SV8004h hard disk

17 inch flatron

56.6 kpbs DLINK modem

Michrotech UPS

and the cake above all is the sound and video is integrated!!!!

And still the price is about 1020 dollars ie approx 49,000 in Indian rupees, if anyone can confirm these prices it will be much appreciated

Thanx.

P4 2.4 - $185
512MB DDR Ram - $100
Samung keyboard - $20
Motherboard - $100
3 button mouse - $20
Samsung CD writer - $50
FDD Drive - $15
400W PSU and case - $100
SBS230 speakers - $15
80GB Samsung - $80
17 inch - $120
56.6 kpbs modem - $20
UPS - $40
Total - $865

All these prices are estimates (I can find better deals than this, but since u are in india the parts might be more expensive because u dont have NewEgg.com). Your buddy really didnt get ripped off. Even in america its not a bad deal, considering it is all put together. So that is like a $155 profit, which is not too bad. But I doubt that the builder got these parts for the prices I listed, so maybe he only made $50-75.

i'd bet you the case is one of those $25 400W case and the RAM is generic and the CPU is a 2.4A... who knows if the parts are used!

so i'd say yeah ripped. india's computer parts prices should not be that high since it's close to taiwan and china...

but consider that workmanship and price for it to be built...

and why not go to your local computer store and check out the prices yourself?

all of a sudden a slew of people posting here are from india and they are all new members!!! i hate to say it but...

smells fishy...

Why the hell would things be cheaper because you "lived in taiwan"

Jesus, my local shop's charge more for certain stuff than the shops in town, like the bakery, and they make stuff....

Just saying you know...

Edit: And what the heck is fishy?

well im saying india is not as techological challenged as you might think. and the fact that india is close to taiwan and china, where most of the computer parts are made, they might actually not be that expensive

and bakery is a totally different matter. local shops DO usually charge more, but it might be a good idea to go to a couple of them and ask for prices, since he is in india. not to mention that he WILL buy the computer in india

and i still don't see the reason why they would want to ask how much these things sell for in US. it's like me asking you how much does an EVO7 or a skyline GTR34 go for in UK. after all the customs and conversion a skyline might actually cost close to $80K in US. i doubt a R34 goes for that much in UK, and you know it (that is, if you know car prices)

and fishy? i've seen a couple of posts here recently and they are all new members ... i mean... anandtech has been around for a while you know

im just wondering. no offense intended

the mobo is an 845GL....how the heck do you get 100 dollars for it?
I admit to being a little out of the loop as far as Intel boards go, but isn't this just the chipset? If so, I found an Asus motherboard with the 845 GL chipset for $62.00 at Newegg...

The 17inch flatron might not be a flat panel (lcd).
He may be referring to the LG Flatron CRTs, all the flat screens and panels are under the Flatron name (i'm using a 19" CRT Flatron).

But if it is a LCD, then the price isn't that bad compared to actual prices one can get the parts for. But the parts are kind of outdated, at least with the 845 motherboard and old model P4. The harddrive is also the prior model, would have been better to get a newer hard drive since I don't think the price difference would have been at that great.
