Ok, So I finally got my but around to bulding a new computer. All my parts arrive Wednesday. I then realized why I'm a complete tool. I didn't get a dang OS. Now looking at it, I came up with two options I wanna try. Asking her to see if I should even bother. Option 1, I have two HD's in my current POS. Ones from a even older POS but they both have XP on them. If I take the oldest one, its like a 19G one, and set its pin to master instead of slave will the new MOBO recognize it? Option 2, I have a vaild windows CD key from this computer. I don't have the windows disks anymore. Is their a place I can download and burn it on to a cd to use? I actually have valid keys for both of them so I'm hopeing. Input? Thoughts? Cake?

Any help, much apreaciato.

If they are full OS keys and you get the proper CD , you can use them.
If they came from name brand computers (IE: Gateway , HP , etc), usually not.
Dell will install on a Dell with no issues almost always.
Most all of the others are proprietary to the original machine only , including the specific motherboard.

Your existing hard drive will probably work but it will input all new drivers on install.
Make sure you have about 2g space on the drive before you do it for drivers , saving downloads and driver removal..
It may be complicated to get all the proper drivers in and old ones out but you can do it.

BTW , you can get a brand new full copy of XP Home on newegg for about $80.
