I'm having about the worst luck with my CPU right now. Over the past three months, I have basically built myself a new high end rig from scratch, minus hard drives, disk drives and a few other things. Everything is upgraded and ready to go minus the CPU, which I will upgrade to a Q9550 2.83GHz Penryn in January. However, my current CPU has terrible heating issues with both water cooling and stock cooling. Before I get into detail, specs:

Basically, I decided to lap my CPU and my waterblock (Apogee GT) one day, and all went well. But when I found out that my idle temps were 56-60C, I knew there was a problem. I was using Coollaboratory Liquid Pro, so I decided to use some AS5 to see if it would make any difference...no difference. I eventually found out that the flow rate of my water cooling setup was terrible (Thermaltake BigWater 745 + Apogee GT), so I decided to get rid of my thermaltake stuff and I will buy some Swiftech and Thermochill equipment in January. However, I then tried the stock HSF from a Q6600 on my Pentium 4, and now my CPU idles at 51C....still horrible. I can play Crysis, Call of Duty 4, and Gears of War for about 10 minutes on full screen until my CPU decides to overheat and freeze up my entire system. Could it be that I sanded it down too much when I was lapping? I also happened to wipe off the pin contacts with rubbing alcohol because they were dirty, if that makes any difference.
Now to the question: I need a cheap CPU for the meanwhile, preferrably under $60 with EM64T, to hold me over until I get a Penryn quad next month. I will be using stock cooling, so anything that is highly overclockable would be preferred. Would a Celeron D 356 3.33GHz do the job? Or should I try to find a good deal on a Conroe. Thanks in advance.
