tl;dr

whats the origins of this

It means "too long; didn't read". I don't know the origins.

The first recorded use of the phrase was by the ancient Egyptians. "Dog, dog, bird, squiggly line... WTF is this shit? TLDR."

Have someone edit your horribly written story.

whats a good website that will care?
No one cares.

If you really want to do something about this, contact a lawyer and your local media.

No shit...don't Canadian universities teach people how to write?

(or is the OP actually a 6th grader and this is a homework assignment?)

Now that I actually read a little of his post, its more than likely that English is not the OP's first language. I didn't mean to make fun of him if that is the case. I don't really care about his story though. He was stealing and got caught. He got roughed up a bit and is now whining about it. And now he is somehow mad that none of us care?

Some of you immature jackholes need to understand not everyone is born speaking teh english. As the phrase often goes... try writing in another language and see if you do better. And don't give me that crap about this being an American board either... you know exactly what I mean.

By "publish" he simply meant get the word out about his "mistreatment" - this is not an attempt to go to TIME magazine. I do agree it is too one-sided and convenient in some parts so I don't feel all that much sympathy. Getting a beat-down usually can be avoided and it's not clear he wanted to avoid confrontation.

BTW, I thought all Canucks were chill... what's up with the fisticuffs?

The fact remains that you tried to take something that wasn't yours. There wasn't a sign above them that said "help yourself!"

What did you want the stupid ink cartridge for anyways? Was it worth it? Did you learn a lesson?

Dude, you need to get some Emotional Intelligence and get over yourself.
The problem you're facing is mostly of your own design, and it's solution is also all yours.
While you may have been abused by the other guy, you initiated the actions by overstepping unwritten social boundaries.
Assimilation is your responsibility, not ours. How are we to know?
Also, in lieu of pay, some places hand out titles and "responsibility" for jobs and tasks that may bring them into contact with the public, without fully considering the resultant actions.
When you tell some meathead he's "responsible" for the Ink Cartridge Recycle Bin, he's liable to take it to an extreme, simply because he wants to "be responsible." No matter that physically assualting someone MIGHT be a little heavy handed, but that's HIS issue.
YOUR problem is challenging someone's 'authoritah' </Cartman> and not accepting the fact that in doing so, you may get hurt.

Edit : Your required reading list:...
!Read First...
2.Read Second.
Then come back and give us a report... You'll be ok, just keep your head down and stay away from the recycle bin maniac guy for a few weeeks.

For starters you need to have someone re-write that in English. I don't care if you're Asian - if you're at an American college you should have college-level English proficiency.

mugs...it's worse than that...he's at a Canadian college...:D

However, I agree...It needs to be re-written by someone who grasps English beyond basic Engrish.

My mistake. Learn English or French!

If they want people to read something that's that long, they need to learn English too.

Their bin, their contents. PERIOD. You can get moralistic about it all you like, but that doesn't change the legal facts.

Bottom line: You attempted to steal a piece of university property. You are lucky that you are not being charged with theft. You refused to comply with a lawful order from security personnel and you resisted. Have fun with your new police record.

You were stealing something. You were wrong there.
They were wrong when they assaulted you, but you shouldn't have been a jackass when they probably told you to put it back or hand it over. They should have just held you there until the police came.

Both sides were stupid, but you were the initiator of the stupidity.

Couldn't read the article, barley got through the title.

I didn't realize you could get through collage without a clear understanding of English.

Actually, I think you can muddle through a collage in any language, but college, at least in the USA or Canada SHOULD require excellent English skills.

Wheat the Fvck?
Yeah, it's getting through the varnish that's that hard part...

I imagine the OP still gets his ire up when he replays it, and he's replaying it every other waking thought. I sense ( or am extending) a feeling of betrayal on the part of the University against the OP , by the OP, based in large measure to pre-concieved notions of just "what" his experience in the USA and at University would be like.
I can certainly envision a sense of security and freedom that is misplaced in this post 9/11/01 world we as natives ( and long term residents) find ourselves.

Dude is obviously young, and needs training, and is out of the purview of his normal Social Boundaries. He's going to fuck up something, it's only natural. Anything else would not.

That's his side of the story. And from reading his recollection, I am guessing he's leaving a lot of stuff(truth) out.

I read most of what the OP wrote. I'm sorry OP, but I am not convinced by your story. A few points:

1. Are you really that idealistic to believe the campus store was recycling toner carts for the goodness of the environment? Are you that ignorant? No, I doubt you are either. Staples and Office Depot offer discounts and incentives for you to return your ink/toner carts at their store. They do that for a reason - because the carts can be reused/resold. Would you go into one of those stores, pick up an empty toner cart and walk out? No. You'd be arrested.

2. You try to reason out what you did by questioning the "neutrality" of recycling items. First off, dumpster diving is questionably legal/illegal in itself. Now, this probably happened on private property, almost certainly making this illegal. Then add to it that this was not "trash" but profitable recycling items and you're certainly stealing. You tried to draw a parallel to cell phones, but a closer parallel might be a story I heard on the news. Restaurants used to dump out a lot of grease; they'd have to pay to get it hauled away. With the advent of biofuels, restaurants were able to make money selling their grease waste to a local processor. One guy saw a market in waste grease, but decided he didn't want to pay people for it. So he went around and siphoned the "waste" grease from the restaurant's outdoor tanks. OP - do you believe his actions are legal?

3. Your story is one-sided to the point that it sounds like you left out important parts of the scenario or you made other parts up altogether. You are reasoning with a student employee at the campus store and he decided to punch you all of a sudden? And as you're helpless, a random customer decides to help the store employee with beating you up? It sounds more like you were asked to return the toner cart (which you should have done). You refused, thought you were smart, started asking for a policy (I doubt a store actually has to show you a written policy stating that you're not permitted to steal), then continued heading out the store. A struggle from both parties ensues and a customer decided to help - the employee.

OP, I don't know the extent of your injuries or the reason why were attacked, but from your story, I do not feel you were mistreated. I don't know if you're hoping to garner sympathy and news coverage to pressure the school to drop the case, but I think your best bet now is to speak with a lawyer and stop trying to reason your way out of this on your own.

You should goto forums.anandtech.com, post about it there and see what the general internet populace thinks.
