Hi,

As you may see in
this thread I have acquired a Promise ATA 100 controler card for my Maxtor 40 GB 7200 rpm HD.

I installed the card, then connected the HD to it.

Now the IDE connectors on the motherboard have the following configuration:

IDE 1: Creative DVD - set as Master
IDE 2: HP CD-RW - set as Master; Aopen 52x CD-ROM - set as Slave

After booting, the computer recognizes the HD, but after a few seconds it restarts by itself.

What do I do wrong?

What is it that I didn't do?

Do I need to change the boot sequence? I have now "SCSI, A, C"

Do I need to make other changes in the BIOS?

Please help!

In case you wonder why I chose to go with the promise card, here are more details:

I succeded (by playing with the jumpers and the maxBlast utility) to make the computer recognize the HD, but the total capacity was something like 24 GB... I even succeded to load Windows on it, but it reported me the same (smaller! ) size.

I guess I'll have to re-format the HD, isn't it?

But please, help me first with making the computer see the HD from the controller card , at its real size, and boot from it without other issues.

You have to load the Promise drivers to recognise the HD
It is in the manual that came with it, choose the method without Operating system installed.

Leave the HD connected to your motherboard onboard controller, install the PCI Controller w/nothing attached to it and boot into safe mode. Install the drivers for the PCI controller card and reboot. Once the OS recognizes the PCI card w/o any problem, shut down and transfer the HD connectors over to the PCI card.

Yeah, change the next boot option to scsi because that's what that PCI card is going to be recognized as.
