HELP!!! I can ping websites, but can't use IE or netscape to get to them!

DNS works - it resolves the name into an IP address.

Haven't changed anything & my other laptop works fine, so the connection is good.

No Firewall.

A longshot, but do you have proxies enabled in the configuration menu?

That's what I was thinking.

Control Panel -> Internet Options

Choose the "Connections" tab.

Click LAN Settings.

Make sure you don't have a proxy configured in there, or make sure the proxy is configured correctly.

ping uses ICMP
http uses TCP

try reinstalling your TCP/IP software

Maybe you should ask in Tech or Networking?
Agreed. This is the wrong forum. Go to the tech support or networking forums.

hate to be rude-

I've been in the same situation before and the networking forum was a little slow (couple days) in helping me out. OT is not the correct place for this, but I understand why munchie did it.

Just my .02

Restart your computer. (hey...its windows)

Run the internet connection wizard. Start -> Run -> ICWCONN1. (that'll fix proxy/basic config for IE)

Make sure there isn't a proxy.

Can you BROWSE by IP?

R/R TCP/IP.. make sure the TCP/IP stack is configured properly.
